Bogota, Colombia: Bogota Bike Tours
Ever since I did Mikes Bike Tour in Munich, Germany, I’ve always appreciated a good bike tour. They close down city streets in Bogota every sunday just for bikes, so we were planning on renting and cruising around. While I was waiting for friends, someone stopped by the courtyard in my hotel and gave me a flier for the tour and said we can start at 1pm. We headed over just before that.
Mike, founder of Bogota Bike Tours, is a long time journalist who has covered events in Bolivia, Columbia, Venezuala, etc. Really nice guy who knows a lot of the general history of the area and a number of tidbits on top of that.
We expected the tour would be an hour or 2, but Mike let us know just after we started that it usually took about 4 hours, which is probably about 10 hours less than he prefers! We covered produce markets, shoulder to shoulder packed street markets, multiple barrios, a Bull Fighting Stadium (off hrs) and tasted many different types of local Colombia food from street carts, etc. It made me realize how much of our immediate area I was completely unaware of! …thought I had it all down, but not even close.
Anyway, it was really a great tour and I’d definitely recommend. You cover a lot of ground…always nice to get some excercise on vacation to make up for all the food you eat!

the bike tours sound so much fun. i think that’s kind of cool they close down city street every sunday for bikes. i wish i could go to bike tours in bangkok… but no one interested in that in my group
…… sucks…
